Useful Resources to Improve Your Chinese

Learning Chinese should not just be about assessment books and endless rote learning!

Here I’ve compiled some resources that will give your child ways to immerse himself or herself in Chinese in fun and enjoyable ways.

General

• NLB Chinese Library Services: NLB’s Chinese FB group. Organizes story telling sessions, posts book recommendations and other learning resources regularly.

• ZB Schools: Online newspaper with articles tailored for primary and secondary school levels

• Singapore Promote Mandarin Council Resources: Language Database, Useful Idioms, and Singapore government terms translated

• Pleco Dictionary: Chinese dictionary and flashcard app

• NLB Reading List: NLB’s recommended Chinese books for kids, organized by grades

• Confucius Institute Student Programs: Enrichment programs for children ages 5 to 16 years old

• Singapore Chinese Culture Centre: Exhibitions and events about chinese culture

Primary School

• KaDa stories: Chinese audiobook app tailored for kids

• Littlefox Chinese: fun songs and TV shows for kids. Also has a youtube channel.

• Enrichment classes by SHKA: speech and drama, calligraphy classes conducted by the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Cultural Academy.

• Chinese music for kids on YouTube. Useful search terms:

• Mama Baby Mandarin’s list of Chinese TV shows for kids: extensive list of recommended TV shows and channels

Secondary School

• 8world News 8 视界新闻 十分访谈: Current topic clips from Channel 8. Useful for oral exams and chinese composition.

• 早报SG: ZaoBao’s youtube channel. Useful for oral exams and chinese composition.

• Ximalaya FM: podcast app with lots of free (as well as paid) audiobooks
